I am a freelance Graphic Designer by day and co-founder of dusk+dawn on weekends, nights and everything else in between! Currently I am working at a couple studios in and out, but as often as I can I am working from home on my own clients.
I am not a morning person at all. I enjoy sleeping in and could probably stay in bed until 11 am everyday if I had nothing to do! Being able to wake up on my own schedule is the best part of working from home. But I am also lucky that in my industry most studio work days often start around 9 or 10 am. So usually I am up and running by 8 am.
Standard iPhone alarm. I have to set around 4 alarms in order to be able to snooze a couple times, so by the 3rd time I am so annoyed I finally get up.
I would be lying if I didn't say the first thing I did was grab my phone and go through instagram, but I am working on that! I also do a 10 minute meditation before jumping in the shower and eating breakfast.
Despite not being a morning person, breakfast is my favorite meal of the day. My standard breakfast is toast with peanut butter, banana and honey. But I also love a good bowl of sugary cereal. I wasn't allowed to eat that stuff as a kid so now as an adult I keep a nice selection of Captain Crunch Berries or Fruity Pebbles around the house!
I think I am most productive around midday. I am an avid checklist-maker; the satisfaction of getting through the list keeps me motivated in the day, but creatively I would say I'm better in the evenings.
If I skipped my morning meditation I try to catch up on one before bed, but I also like to create my checklist for the following day before bed. Once it is on paper I can release it from my mind and not stay up all night thinking about everything that needs to be done the following day. After that wash my face, brush my teeth, and do a little reading if it's not too late!
Definitely. I make it a priority to get 8 hours of sleep every day. I don't know how I used to survive off of 6-7 hours of sleep.
Always on my left side.
In my bed.
Sadly I do not. As a kid I remember being jealous of my sister who had crazy vivid dreams and wanted to share them with me all the time. To this day she will call me to tell me about them and I will annoyingly have to listen along.
The closest I have gotten to that is the thinking that happens right before you fall asleep. Where you're conscious of what you're thinking but it doesn't fully make sense. Usually I will be thinking about work or my business, or something that is worrying me and in that short moment of dozing off I have found clarity before.
Before dusk+dawn I didn't care at all, but I soon realized I was doing it all wrong! Having comfortable, beautiful pieces to sleep in and do my nightly routine in totally changes my mood and excitement for bedtime.
Pillow Fluff Heaven.
The most special would be in the middle of the jungle in Guatemala. Falling asleep to the sound of the jungle is incredibly loud, mesmerizing and humbling.
When traveling it's always so hard for me to grasp that while I am sleeping in Japan the other side of the world is just getting up in NYC or vice versa. So I guess life goes on while we sleep! We get a moment of rest to be grateful for while everything else keeps moving.
I have not used one to track my sleep but I have used one to aide my sleep. I am a big fan of Headspace. They have amazing sleep meditations and sleep sounds to fall asleep to. When I am too wound up from the day and need some help falling asleep they are my go-to.
One of the sleep meditations I use makes you count from 1000 back to zero. I think I've gotten to 950...
Hmm I would choose to just remember my dream, whatever it was! I believe dreams can be a great way to try to understand what's going on in your subconscious, and I would love to have a glimpse of what's going on in mine!
