Handmade by a small team of incredible women, dusk + dawn has a simple goal of making women feel good. Sisters Victoria and Jessica Herrera set out to create effortless but elegant sleepwear designed specifically for women.
My sister has always been into fancy sleepwear, but hated the fact that a quality piece could cost up to $500. I on the other hand, hated the experience of shopping for lingerie or sleepwear. Most was geared towards men, the designs felt tacky or overly decorated, and why would I trade in my comfy old pjs for that? So we decided to do something about it. To create a lingerie brand intended to make the women wearing them feel good, and no one else. To create simple, elegant pieces with quality fabric at an accessible price.
We started d + d almost 2 years ago. It took about a month or so for us to start making it happen after we came up with the idea. Then another 2 years to actually launch. It's been quite the ride! We started with the idea of producing in China. After a few months, we found a female-run factory that we felt aligned with our values. However, over time, we realized that the quality of the products was just not up to our standards, communication was difficult and international shipping was getting expensive.
Eventually we realized we had to no choice but to bring production back home. This way, we could be on top of production and ultimately be proud of what we were producing. It was a big change in our strategy and finances, but in the end, the best thing that happened to us. After building a small, but incredibly talented team, we were able to get our production done in NY and still keep our prices well below all of our competitors in the category. Thought up in my house in Brooklyn, produced in the Garment District in NYC. Something we are very proud of.
Dusk + Dawn is for anyone that wants to feel feminine, comfortable, and luxurious in their downtime. Our first collection is a line of 100% silk charmeuse pieces, including a slip dress, romper, slip top, shorts, pants, and robe. They are simple essentials that can easily be taken out in the day time. Meticulously designed to be feminine yet comfortable, and most importantly, perfect to sleep in. We hope to offer women a moment of self love. A moment of indulgence for yourself, guilt-free because of the fair pricing, ethical production and intention behind it all. We plan on offering future collections, with new luxury fabrics and designs, in time. Some collections may overlap and we may bring back previous collections, but as of now they will only be available online at duskanddawn.co until they sell out.
I think we have a unique backstory. My sister and I are not in fashion so this was a totally new undertaking for us. We wanted to be intentional with our creations and not just add to the noise. On the product side we are proud of the beautiful pieces we created and even prouder to be one of the most affordable within our competitors and one of the few that is made in America. My sister, Jessica and I are the founders, but none of this would be possible without mentioning our amazing team. Rebecca Danenberg leading our production, Victor Prieto does all of our incredible photography, Trevor Carr on the development side and the third leg to our tripod, Emily Ramirez, who has been with us since day one.
We are inspired by the women around us. Through this process we have had the support of so many talented women. People who gave us advice or donated their services. It kept us going to have not only their support but to have so many hands touch d+d. $1 of every purchase is donated to Days for Girls, an incredible organization that provides period kits to women in underprivileged communities. We're excited to get more involved with them and hope to start hosting some kit making parties soon. So stay tune!
