“I fell asleep atop a cliff in Hong Kong. It was after a long hike, the world seemed to stand completely still and silent.“
In 2016 I graduated from the Savannah College of Art & Design in Fashion Marketing and Graphic Design. Shortly after that I moved to NYC. Currently I am an Art Director for a digital media platform called COOLS. We partner with tons of retailers and brands to curate shoppable editorial content. So I create and oversee all things visual. We've done some really fun stuff with Net-A-Porter, Outdoor Voices, & Glossier.
WHAT TIME DO YOU GET UP?
I'm usually awake around 7:30am. I don't consider myself an early bird because, while I am awake at 7:30am, I won't roll out of bed until past 8:30 / 9am; a habit I'm trying to quit.
HOW DOES YOUR ALARM SOUND?
Like a puppy named Louie.
THINGS YOU DO IN THE MORNING?
First, I make a list of things I want to accomplish that day. It helps me to focus on specific goals because I tend to go on creative tangents if I don't have a solid plan.
Food + Coffee = Life. A breakfast bowl with a poached egg, quinoa, tomatoes, and spinach usually does the trick. If I'm running late blueberry bagel with strawberry cream cheese is my go to. And always an Americano with vanilla once I get to work. In my neighboorhood, Chez Oskar makes a mean Brioche French Toast & Grapefruit Brûlée.
WHAT TIME ARE YOU MOST CREATIVE?
I think my creative juices start flowing after 1pm.
ARE YOU GETTING ENOUGH SLEEP?
I like to think so. I'm lucky enough to have a pretty flexible work schedule. So I can catch up on sleep if need be — I hope my boss isn’t reading this.
Since moving to New York, I find it so much easier to fall asleep. Whoever said "New York is the city that never sleeps," clearly didn’t walk up enough subway stairs.
WHERE DO YOU SLEEP BEST?
My sister's guest bedroom. That bed is magical, and will transport you to the best dreams you've ever had — is that weird to say?
ANY RITUALS BEFORE GOING TO BED?
No rituals. But I try to read a bit before going to bed. Right now it's "Giovanni's Room" by James Baldwin.
DO YOU REMEMBER YOUR DREAMS?
Not often. But I do remember a dream I once had of Jon Snow serenading me with a sitar on a boat. Interpret that as you wish.
ARE YOUR DREAMS INSPIRING YOU TO REAL LIFE PROJECTS?
Actually, yes! It was a curated shop offering goods that you would need to create the perfect Sunday afternoon. The space would cover all of the senses, sight, touch, smell, taste, and sound. I'm currently working on the ground work of it. CAN YOU GIVE MORE INSIGHT ABOUT ON SUNDAY HERE
DO YOU CARE WHAT YOU WEAR FOR SLEEPING?
I get hot easily, so usually just my underwear.
YOUR BED IN THREE WORDS.
Not. Long. Enough.
WEIRDEST OR MOST SPECIAL SPOT YOU EVER SLEPT IN?
I fell asleep atop a cliff in Hong Kong. It was after a long hike, the world seemed to stand completely still and silent.
WHAT HAPPENS WHILE WE SLEEP?
Our souls rest, while our minds run wild.
WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DREAM ABOUT TONIGHT?
My life in 7 years.
