“I suppose I take pictures of myself or friends in beds a bit. It’s an intimate and vulnerable setting...“
Hannah lives right in the heart of the USA. As a day job she currently works as a waitress in Kansas City. She enjoys taking photographs with her analogue camera, embracing the imperfections and tangibility of shooting on film.

What are you doing during the day?
My life feels pretty inconsistent right now. It could be waiting tables, teaching or practicing yoga, taking photos, or catching up with friends. When taking photos, I think I'll always take them for myself and if people ever wanted to pay me for what I do then I would welcome it but I would prefer complete creative freedom or else it would taint the whole thing for me.
What time do you usually get up?
I'm not an early bird at all. I’m usually awake by 8 but I’m generally in an awkward mood first thing in the morning and don’t care for interactions with people.
How does your alarm sound?
Standard iPhone alarm.
What is the first thing you do in the morning?
If I have time, I sit up and meditate to get it out of the way. I’ll put on some music and check out photos that friends or photographers I follow posted. Eat breakfast.
Do you like having breakfast? And what do you have?
Yes, it’s usually cereal, fruit or avocado toast. Maybe some tea.
What time of the day are you most productive?
As the sun is setting or as photographers would refer to as “golden hour”. The light inspires me.
Do you think sleep influences your work?
I suppose I take pictures of myself or friends in beds a bit. It’s an intimate and vulnerable setting. I find that not so much my sleep or lack thereof affects my work as much as the state of mind I’m in.
Would you describe yourself as a good sleeper?
Most of the time I don’t really have issues with falling asleep, so yes.
Where do you sleep best?
My bed or in a really dark room with a fan for white noise.
Your photography feels kind of dreamy, what inspires you?
Human emotions. I try to capture what I see which at times life can feel really dreamy and if it’s not, I try to create that feeling in a photo.
Do you have any rituals before going to bed?
Not really but sometimes I’ll read or make to do lists.
Do you care about what you wear for sleeping?
T-shirt and panties or nude.
Describe your bed in 3 words.
King, cozy, centered.
What is the most special spot you’ve ever fallen asleep.
It’s hard for me to just fall asleep in random places but special would be next to someone I feel a closeness to.
What do you think happens while we sleep?
I recently listened to a TED talk that explained how Cerebral Spinal Fluid rushes through your brain to clear out waste. It’s fascinating!
Yes! We highly recommend this TED talk. Watch it here.
What would you like to dream about tonight?
Traveling or something that would inspire me creatively. It would be nice to dream of something visually pleasing that I could recreate in a photo. I actually dreamt the other night that I was drowning. I think it's probably reflective of me feeling overwhelmed lately. It's definitely affecting my work but I know it's just a phase that I'll come out of. As far as traveling. I would go anywhere... there are so many amazing places. I'm hoping to visit some friends that are moving to Portland soon. I'd love to take photos in the mossy forests.
