“Most ideas that come into my head evolve while I am under the shower or in meditation mode.“

WHAT ARE YOU DOING DURING THE DAY?

I am the founder & designer of Atelier Karasinski, a design agency established in 2011, based in Vienna, Austria.

WHAT TIME DO YOU USUALLY GET UP?

I am in no means an early bird. As I was born almost midnight on a Sunday back in 1990, I need at least 10-12 hours of sleep every night. So my basic wake up hour is as at about 11am.

HOW DOES YOUR ALARM SOUND?

It’s an iPhone carillon.

WHAT IS THE FIRST THING YOU DO IN THE MORNING?

The first thing I do is stretch, check the time and my phone. Get up, drink black tea with milk and check my mails.

DO YOU LIKE HAVING BREAKFAST? AND WHAT DO YOU HAVE?

I usually never eat breakfast as I feel more concentrated on an empty stomach in the morning (bloodflow, I guess). But I love getting big nice breakfasts including some eggs benedict, a big coffee with milk or chai and a typical AustrianSchnittlauchbrot, which is a full-grain bread with butter and chives, on free days I have breakfast with my friends.

WHAT TIME OF THE DAY ARE YOU MOST PRODUCTIVE?

My peak productive times are changing year after year. I used to be a late night worker and was in the zone late at night until 2am. Nowadays I can work the best from 1 to about 5pm after I’ve checked my mails and returned all calls.

DO YOU THINK SLEEP INFLUENCES YOUR WORK?

Oh yes, sleep influences my work a lot. If I don’t get a goodnight’s sleep I will not be able to work properly. I love sleeping!

DO YOU GET ENOUGH SLEEP?

Since I’ve changed my work hours recently (11am to 7pm) and forced myself to allow myself more free time and time for myself out of the office I am getting a much more better sleep.

WHERE DO YOU SLEEP BEST?

I sleep best in my bed, when it’s slightly cold in my apartment.

DO YOU HAVE ANY RITUALS BEFORE GOING TO BED?

Besides the daily rituals in the bathroom, I never go to bed without a glass of fresh water beside my bed. Because I drink way to less water during the day I often wake up at night and drink water in my sleep.

WHAT ELSE DO YOU KEEP ON YOUR NIGHTSTAND BESIDES WATER?

Stacks of books I will never have enough time for, a Dyptique candle (Musc), my glasses, a lamp.

WHAT ARE YOU CURRENTLY READING?
DO YOU REMEMBER YOUR DREAMS?

I do collect my dreams in a dream diary. After going out on the weekends, I often dream that my night is going on in my dream with the exact same people, in the exact same place, just very weird things happen. I really like these kind of dreams, because they are like my own little sci-fi movie in my head.

DID YOU EVER DREAM AN IDEA THAT YOU BROUGHT TO REAL LIFE?

Most ideas that come into my head evolve under the shower or in meditation mode.

DO YOU CARE ABOUT WHAT YOU WEAR FOR SLEEPING?

It totally depends on the season or my mood. Last night I wore striped sleeping pants, cozy socks and a very cuddly oversized sweater as I felt really cold at night.

DESCRIBE YOUR BED IN 3 WORDS.

Big, cozy, a lot of pillows.

WHAT IS THE MOST SPECIAL SPOT YOU’VE EVER FALLEN ASLEEP.

In a discotheque. I went to a big techno club with my sister when I was 14 or 15 and fell asleep on a lounge chair by the dancefloor.

WHAT DO YOU THINK HAPPENS WHILE WE SLEEP?

Mostly we process experiences we had during the day in our dreams, our muscles rest, our heartbeat gets slower.

HOW MANY SHEEP DO YOU COUNT?

None, I watch endless episodes on Netflix until I fall asleep.

WHAT DO YOU WANT TO DREAM ABOUT TONIGHT?

Traveling around the world.
